Here at Glowbug Publishing, we're all very excited about the upcoming release of Redcap Manor, a stunning artbook and collection of (ultra) short stories about boggarts, barghests, banshees, and other things that go bump in the night! Redcap Manor is "authored" by the fictional Arthur L. Randolph (an Edwardian socialite and inventor who turned his considerable talents to ghost and fairy hunting) and illustrated by the very talented (and very real) Rustan Curman. Inspired by both the traditional folklore of Britain and Edwardian ghost stories (particularly Algernon Blackwood's psychic detective John Silence and William Hope Hodgson's Carnacki the Ghost-Finder), Redcap Manor seeks to restore the dread reputation of the Fair Folk.
The road to Redcap Manor was not a short one; the book has its origins in a board game of the same name that was in the works a decade ago. Sadly, the game never materialised (or at least, not yet...?), and Rustan's fantastical images disappeared into a digital drawer, seemingly forgotten.
Fast forward ten years to 2023, and Glowbug Publishing is founded to preserve and present classic short stories, novellas, and novels in beautiful printed form to a contemporary audience. Over the years, we noticed that established publishers are increasingly neglecting works in the public domain, leaving self-publishers to pick up the slack. This motivated us to ensure that classic works continue to be presented in a professional, printed manner. While the focus of Glowbug is on accurately preserving works from the past, we also intend to publish new works that bring the spirit of the past into the present. Remembering Rustan's artwork, we commissioned a work that would bring his artwork to life in a coherent narrative and unique world. This led to an account of the chilling adventures of Randolph and his fellow fairy hunters Imogen Downing and Gwendolyn Harrick in the titular manor.
